Guide updated 18 October 2026. App controls can vary by platform, version and account access.
On Mac beta 1.0.5, a mission keeps its work in a private folder, can attach proof files to completed criteria and can be resumed from another chat.

Read about Vault ↗On Mac beta 1.0.5, accounts with local-computer access can let idem use an installed app after a per-app grant and any macOS Automation permission.
Read where idem acts ↗Mac stable 1.0.4 can keep the meeting card and notch controls out of many screen shares. The capturing app still decides whether to honor the setting.
Read about meeting notes ↗On Mac beta 1.0.5 build 2119, archiving the open chat selects the next visible conversation, and idem’s message bubble now matches the selected sidebar row.
Read about changing and stopping work ↗idem can inspect the visible browser or cloud-computer screen and handle several actions as one bounded task, while stopping before consequential final actions.
Read about browser and computer work ↗Describe the result you want, give idem the relevant context, and review what it produces. Start with one task, then save or schedule what works.
Start with one real task. You do not need to learn the systems below first.
Open in idem starts a new conversation with the request ready to review. Connect the relevant accounts or share the sources, and identify the delivery you want tracked before sending.
Connections give idem bounded access to services such as email, Calendar, Slack, Notion, Linear, Granola, and Stripe.
Link your ChatGPT subscription through the ChatGPT connection control in your idem account settings. This is separate from connecting a service such as email or Notion.
Your workspace may block device-code sign-in. A workspace administrator can open ChatGPT workspace settings, go to General and enable Enable device code sign-in for Codex, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Then retry the connection in idem. The label mentions other products, but it is the device-code permission used by this sign-in flow.
For a personal ChatGPT account, check the device-code sign-in option in ChatGPT’s Security settings instead. Menu wording can change; see OpenAI’s device-code sign-in instructions.
Sensitive actions can pause for your approval. Review the recipient, content and effect before approving. Standing permissions may change which actions ask first.
Use plain language to inspect automatic work, change its instructions or stop it. Name the task when more than one could match.
Check the connected account, permitted chats and the newest source message idem can actually read. Older history may not be synced; a reconnect may be needed. An empty result is not proof that nobody replied.
Ask for its schedule, timezone, latest run result and pending approvals. Cloud jobs do not require your device to stay awake, but a step needing a local file or human sign-in may still be blocked.
Sessions can expire. A website may require a new-device check, passkey or human verification. Use the secure sign-in flow, not a password pasted into chat.
Read the completion message for the file link or external confirmation. Ask whether idem only prepared a draft or actually completed the action.
Ask idem to change the saved instruction controlling the behavior, not just rewrite this answer.
Use a regular chat for browser and Live View work for now. Incognito browser sessions and app switching have known reliability problems. Some bot-sensitive sites can also block the cloud browser completely; a blocked page is not evidence about the account or task.
Do not paste passwords, API keys, authenticator setup keys or payment details into chat. Use the secure input card when idem needs a credential.
The access request names the saved value and where it will be used. Review both. Prefer one-time access when you do not want a continuing permission.
The secure card can offer saving in Vault or using the value only for the current task. The assistant uses a protected reference rather than seeing the secret.
Ask to update the saved login, then enter the new value through the secure card. Never include it in your request.
Ask to revoke standing approval for a saved value. Revoking future access is different from deleting the value or undoing an action already completed.
idem can use a passkey saved in Vault to sign in to its own site, without seeing or typing the private key. Where supported, idem can also add its own passkey after you sign in; your existing passkeys keep working.
For an authenticator-app login, Vault can keep the site’s setup key and generate future codes. Enter the setup key through the secure card, not a current six-digit code and never ordinary chat.
When no connection exists, idem can operate a cloud browser or call a service's API. Credentials stay outside chat and model context.
On current iPhone and Mac releases, idem can transcribe a meeting without joining the call as a participant. Android availability depends on the installed version.
Most requests should remain ordinary conversations. idem can use longer-running structures when the volume genuinely requires them.
For work that needs hours, idem can propose an objective, checkable completion criteria and a live plan. You approve the mission before it starts. While it runs, the mission status replaces the composer; open the mission sheet to inspect progress or stop it. It continues until the criteria are met, it is blocked or you stop it. On Mac beta 1.0.5, each mission also has a private folder, proof files and a review flow for resuming it from another chat.
idem can delegate independent parts of one request to parallel workers. The parent conversation remains responsible for user questions, permissions and consequential external actions. There is no fixed child-count cap, but idem should create only the independent workers the task actually needs.
idem can create reports, dashboards, plans, documents, spreadsheets, images, and interactive pages.
A file created in your private workspace is not automatically public. Files created in an already-shared folder follow that folder’s access.
Anyone with the link can open it. Check the contents for personal or confidential information before asking for a public link.
Ask to share a specific file with an idem user by email, with read-only or edit access. Sharing one file does not share its surrounding folder.
Name the file and ask who can access it or how to stop sharing. Do not assume deleting a chat removes a public link or a recipient’s copy.
The visible layer that makes idem personal. Durable facts, preferences, instructions, plans, and work products live in files you can inspect.
Check Manage account for the price, billing period and usage options that apply to your account. Subscription access and AI usage are separate costs under the announced pricing model; do not assume usage is included.
Use the ChatGPT connection instructions, including the workspace administrator step if device-code sign-in is blocked. Confirm your account’s supported plan and limits before relying on it.
Where idem-provided inference is available, review its charges and spending-cap settings in account management. Availability and existing-account terms may vary.
Optional detail about the systems idem chooses for you.
Scheduled work. A job wakes idem at a fixed time or cadence in the cloud, even when your phone and computer are asleep.
/jobs/.idem's recurring operating cycle. It notices credible loose ends, prepares safe work, checks active outcomes when due, and interrupts you only when something changed or needs you.
/jobs/heartbeat.md.Durable ownership for an outcome that unfolds over time. A loop remembers what done means, watches the real source, and survives across conversations.
/loops/, with its latest decision, blocker, next check, and completion condition.Reusable know-how. A skill captures how you want a repeated workflow performed, including its inputs, sequence, constraints, and tools.
/skills/.You can skip this decision and describe the result. If you want the mental model, use this.

MCP is a standard that lets services expose tools to an assistant.
Usually connects through a link and OAuth. A custom server needs a reachable remote URL and compatible authentication.
A server running only on your laptop cannot be reached by cloud idem. Host it remotely or use another supported route.
Browse workflows by category, from sales and marketing to fitness and everyday planning. Each starts with one real task, clear sources and permissions, and a definition of done.
When it runs
Choose a category first, then search for a task or narrow by when it runs. Workflows are arranged by category; proactive, scheduled and on-demand describe timing, not the purpose of the work.
These are starting requests, not guarantees that every source is available. idem will ask for missing context or access. Proactive checks run on an agreed cadence, not instantly when an external event happens. Review drafts before external actions; approval requirements depend on your permissions.
Open in idem prepares a new chat; it does not send the request.
Screen an opportunity against your own criteria, not a generic verdict.
View workflow ↓Combines the material you received with accessible supporting evidence, then checks fit, risks and unanswered questions against your criteria. Returns a recommendation with reasons, gaps and a proposed next step.

No invented agreement, pricing or delivery promise. The proposal is not sent or accepted on your behalf.
Keep a reviewed document aligned with the feedback in its conversation.
View workflow ↓Tracks the specified review thread on an agreed cadence, connects comments to the correct draft and prepares revisions. Returns the revised file with a concise explanation of changes and any conflicting feedback.
The exact draft, an accessible feedback thread and rules about which edits need your decision.
A customer comments on a case study. Prepare the corrections in the original file and flag a disputed claim.
Ambiguous feedback is not silently accepted. Revisions are neither published nor sent back without authorization.
Find what changed in performance and which checks to make before changing spend.
View workflow ↓Compares the period you specify with a baseline using available campaign and lead-quality data. Explains material changes, tests plausible causes against evidence and proposes focused checks or experiments.
Performance exports or accessible accounts, goals, comparison periods and lead-quality evidence where available.
Clicks rise but qualified leads fall. Compare targeting, conversion tracking and lead quality before raising the budget.
Correlation is not proof of cause. No spend, targeting or campaign settings are changed by the review.
Track meaningful changes across a company list without repeated manual searches.
View workflow ↓Checks the sources agreed for each company and compares new evidence with the previous review. Returns a company-by-company digest of material changes, why they matter and the direct evidence behind them.
A defined company list, readable sources, material-change criteria and a review cadence.

Gather the actual invoice files and show which suppliers still need attention.
View workflow ↓Searches approved email sources and supplier portals for the selected period, retrieves accessible invoice documents and organizes them in a folder. Returns a supplier checklist with files found, missing items and access blockers.
A supplier list, reporting period, destination folder and approved email or portal access.
Collect monthly software invoices, save the PDFs together and flag the portal that requires a verification step.
Some portals require human sign-in. Credentials use secure input, and a missing file is not proof that no invoice exists.
See upcoming renewals, notice periods and overlapping recurring costs.

View workflow ↓Reviews a defined set of conversations, checks who spoke last and whether a response was requested, and ranks outstanding replies by age and importance. Returns reply drafts with the message that triggered each one.
The accounts or chats to review, a waiting-time threshold and any people or topics to prioritize.
Find customer questions waiting more than four days and prepare replies that account for the whole exchange.
No messages are sent. Limited history can hide an earlier reply, so ambiguous threads stay marked for review.
Separate messages needing a decision from those that only need a straightforward reply.
View workflow ↓Reads the inbox you specify and groups messages into decisions, proposed replies and informational updates. Each action includes enough context to review quickly, rather than another summary of every message.
An accessible inbox or message source, the review period and your rules for what counts as important.
Review unread messages each morning, draft scheduling replies and flag requests for pricing approval.
Drafts remain unsent. It does not archive, delete or mark messages read unless you explicitly request those actions.
Prepare an introduction that explains the fit and respects both people’s consent.
View workflow ↓Uses the relationship context and purpose you provide to draft separate opt-in messages, then a joint introduction if both people agree. Keeps the rationale specific and avoids exposing private context unnecessarily.

Connect a founder seeking distribution advice with a partner who has relevant experience, after each opts in.
No introduction is sent by default. Availability, interest and permission are not inferred from an address book.
Choose between options using the features and total cost that matter to you.
View workflow ↓Turns your requirements into comparison criteria, checks exact options and sellers, and verifies decisive features and terms. Returns a small shortlist with trade-offs, source links and uncertainties rather than an exhaustive catalogue.

The vendors, requirements, budget assumptions, proposals and accessible technical or commercial documentation.
Compare two CRM offers including migration work, minimum contract length and data-export options, not just monthly price.
Unsupported features and unclear costs are flagged. No vendor is selected, contacted or contracted automatically.
Find the correct document and get it ready for the recipient who needs it.
Searches the approved source, verifies the document’s identity and version, and prepares a minimal message with the right attachment. You review the destination and content before sending; the completion record distinguishes retrieved, prepared, sent and acknowledged.
The document you need, its approved source, the recipient, deadline and exact permission to disclose it.
Retrieve a current supplier certificate from email and prepare it for the purchasing contact before an upcoming appointment.
Recipient and attachment checks are mandatory. Sensitive documents stay private; include only necessary content. Sent does not mean received or processed, and delivery needs your authorization.
Stop rechecking an unavailable item while keeping the purchase decision yours.
First verifies a readable source for the exact product, variant and delivery region. Checks it on an agreed cadence and reports a material stock change with current price and source evidence. Prepares a purchase option only after rechecking the seller and terms.
The exact item or variant, seller, location, acceptable price and how often to check. Define when the watch should stop.
Watch for a replacement part in the required size, notify you when the seller has it and show the current offer before any order.
A proposed watch pattern, not a guarantee of instant alerts or reserved stock. Source access must be tested before monitoring starts. No purchase, substitution or payment is authorized by an availability request.

Before a screening call, review what the recruiter has already asked, the company context and the gaps you want to clarify about the role.
Missing history is flagged. Suggested answers must reflect real experience; no qualifications, prior agreement or knowledge about the interviewer is invented.
Turn actual meeting notes into a recap people can act on.
View workflow ↓Extracts decisions, owners, dates and promised materials from notes or a transcript. Drafts a follow-up that distinguishes commitments made in the meeting from suggested next steps and flags missing owners or deadlines.
The meeting notes or transcript, intended recipients and any relevant previous correspondence.
After a discovery call, prepare an email confirming scope questions, who will answer them and the agreed next meeting.
No invented agreement from a calendar title. Sending the recap or creating tasks is a separate action.
Start the day with commitments and decisions, rather than checking every app.
View workflow ↓Combines today’s calendar with relevant messages and open commitments. Produces a compact agenda, material changes and three suggested priorities, with links back to the sources and explicit blockers.

The task list or plan to review, supporting sources and a weekly delivery time.
On Friday, identify three unfinished commitments and decide which to carry forward, delegate or drop.
It does not treat a draft as a completed send or a task label as proof of delivery. No task records change automatically.
Know which product changes you can demonstrate and which are still proposals.
View workflow ↓Reviews current release notes and customer-facing documentation. Produces a short briefing with changed behavior, demo steps, platform differences and practical limitations, checking whether the feature is available to the intended account.
Customer-facing release notes and documentation, the intended demo audience and desired review schedule.
Before a sales demo, identify a new control, how to show it and whether it is actually available to the account.
A product announcement does not establish availability for every account or platform. Check the intended environment before promising or demonstrating a feature.
See recurring customer problems without mistaking message volume for prevalence.
View workflow ↓Groups feedback from approved sources into bugs, requests and onboarding difficulties. Counts distinct customers, links representative evidence and identifies where apparently similar complaints have different underlying causes.
The feedback sources, period, relevant product context and a way to identify distinct customers.
Find which onboarding blockers affected multiple accounts this month and separate them from repeated messages by one person.
Does not infer customer-wide frequency from incomplete sources. No engineering fix or roadmap commitment is made.
Review the full opportunity batch, research the strongest matches and prepare complete application packages.
Reads a job URL, pasted description or a completed sourcing batch. Deduplicates roles, checks the full batch against your criteria and researches company context before ranking. For approved roles, creates a tailored CV and cover letter in the requested language, with a reviewable tracker and original links.
An accurate master CV, role and company criteria, a job source, output language and document-format requirements.
Review a daily job feed, reject unsuitable roles, compare the remaining employers and prepare a PDF CV plus cover letter for your chosen applications.
Preserves rejected roles and separates shortlisted, approved, package-ready and applied states. Missing descriptions or files stay explicit. Preparation alone never means an application was submitted.
Create a first-week plan with real owners and visible setup gaps.
View workflow ↓Uses the role and approved team documentation to sequence account setup, introductions, reading and initial work. Produces a daily plan with owners and dependencies, marking stale guidance and missing access.
The role, start date, team documentation, setup requirements and people responsible for each step.
Prepare a new support hire’s first week, including access requests, shadowing sessions and a bounded first assignment.
No invitations or access grants are sent. Outdated documentation is flagged rather than treated as current policy.
Finish the browser steps for an application you have already reviewed and authorized.
Opens the exact approved listing, fills factual form fields, uploads the chosen CV and prepares the final submission for review. Once you authorize that application, it can submit and record the actual confirmation, keeping incomplete or blocked attempts separate from completed ones.
The approved role, final CV and cover letter, accurate answers to required questions, and a clear submission boundary. Login details use the secure vault, not chat.
Select one prepared application, review its answers and documents, authorize submission and receive the confirmation link or email reference.
A separate step from job-search preparation. Human-only checks, missing answers and new terms stop the flow. Do not infer blanket authority or mark an application sent without confirmation.
Build short practice sessions around what your answers show you need next.
View workflow ↓Starts with your goal and a small calibration task, then prepares an explanation, contextual practice and a check of understanding. Uses the answers to select review material rather than assuming exposure means mastery.
The subject, approximate level, learning goal and time available for each session.
Practice a grammar pattern in a short passage, answer a few questions and revisit the errors in the next lesson.
Only the skills actually tested are assessed. Written exercises cannot establish pronunciation or conversational fluency.
Discuss your current reading without crossing your spoiler boundary.
View workflow ↓Uses the exact chapter or passage you name to clarify relationships, imagery and themes. Produces passage-level notes or discussion prompts, helping you reconstruct what is happening without explaining later revelations.
The book, your exact stopping point and the passage or question you want to discuss.
After a difficult scene, reconstruct who is present and what each person knows using only material already read.
No later plot details. If the text or chapter boundary cannot be verified, you may need to provide the passage.
Find a next read that fits your tastes and your current mood.
View workflow ↓Uses past ratings, favorites, dislikes and constraints to build a small shortlist. Returns one main recommendation and two alternatives, explaining their different appeal and any likely mismatch without plot spoilers.
Your reading history or a few examples, current mood, preferred languages and length constraints.
Choose an atmospheric novel for a busy week, with a longer immersive alternative for later.
Recommendations are judgments, not guarantees. Ownership, availability and whether you have already read a title must be checked.
Build a listening queue from publishers’ original audio instead of generating another narration.
Identifies articles in the approved newsletter inbox, locates each publisher’s existing audio and uses an authorized subscriber session where needed. Verifies that the selected article plays, then organizes private listening links or permitted files into a queue with duplicate detection.
Selected newsletters, authorized publisher access and a destination for the listening queue. Sending files to another app requires a supported connection and your permission.
Collect this week’s newsletters that already have audio and prepare a private listening list for your commute, without producing duplicate narration.
Original audio is not available for every article. Subscriber links and files remain private and subject to publisher terms. Automatic inbox triggers and listening-app transfer need their own successful tests.
Prepare a basket based on what you actually use, not a static shopping list.
View workflow ↓Reviews the previous basket and your feedback about leftovers or missing staples. Adjusts quantities and checks retailer options, producing a reviewable basket with substitutions and unresolved stock questions.
Your retailer, household needs, budget and a short update on what ran out or accumulated.
Reduce items left over last week, replenish the staples that ran out and review substitutions before checkout.
Dietary needs must be supplied. Checkout, payment and delivery-slot commitments require separate authorization.
Put confirmed bookings, important dates and missing travel decisions in one place.
View workflow ↓Reads actual booking confirmations, assembles an itinerary and checks relevant time-sensitive details against direct sources. Returns a document checklist, transfer gaps and decisions still needed.
Booking confirmations, traveler requirements, destinations and dates. Supply sensitive details through secure routes when necessary.
Combine hotel and train confirmations, identify an unplanned transfer and check the baggage rule for the booked fare.
An itinerary is not a booking. Entry requirements need authoritative verification and unresolved details are not assumed.
Turn your goals, available time and equipment into a practical week of training.
View workflow ↓Uses your stated experience, available equipment and schedule to prepare sessions with exercises, sets, repetitions and rest. Creates a simple checklist or tracker, then revises the next week from sessions you actually completed rather than assuming the plan was followed.
Your goal, training experience, equipment, available days and session length, plus any restrictions from a qualified professional. Calendar access is optional and must be verified before adding sessions.
Prepare three 45-minute sessions using gym equipment, with a shorter alternative for a busy day. Review the plan before putting the sessions on your calendar.
General fitness planning, not medical assessment or injury rehabilitation. Do not train through pain. Professional restrictions take priority, and calendar changes require your authorization. Recurring delivery must be explicitly scheduled.
Use completed sessions to decide what to keep, simplify or review in your next training week.
View workflow ↓Reads the workout log you provide and compares completed sessions, repetitions and loads with the intended plan. Summarizes consistency and trends, flags missing entries, and proposes conservative adjustments for review. Can prepare a weekly summary in your chosen document or training log when authorized.
A workout log with dates and completed sets or repetitions, the current plan and your feedback about effort and recovery. Agree the review period and destination; missing sessions are unknown, not automatically skipped.
Review four weeks of recorded sessions, identify which exercises are consistently completed and suggest simplifying a session that repeatedly runs over time.
A log is not a clinical assessment or proof of physical change. Missing measurements cannot establish strength gains or body-composition changes. Do not recommend increasing loads through pain; seek qualified advice for symptoms. Writing to another app or setting a recurring review needs authorization.
